1969 Ford Mustang Gulfstream Aqua Mach 1
This car was purchased on June 13, 1996. After waiting a few years until the restoration was completed on the 1966 Hardtop, engine work began on the tired 390 in November of 1999. The original "S code" engine needed a complete overhaul. Work was done by Ron Miller of Fargo, N.D. which included honing the cylinders out .0030 over orignal specs, a "freshened" crankshaft, new pistons, new oil pan and pump and a Crane Competition camshaft were also added.
In October, 2000 the car was delivered to Norm Erstad of Leonard, N.D. for the next part of the restoration. New rear quarters, a new trunk lid, rear frame extension rails and floor pans were all installed. The exterior features all new chrome and rear window sport slats, a front spoiler and rear wing. The exterior paint is Ditzler brand Gulfstream Aqua with a clear coat finish.
The interior was completed over Memorial Day weekend, 2001. The old, torn seats were replaced with authentic ford comfortweeve buckets and rear. The faded dashboard was replaced, sound deadener was installed to insulate the "cabin" just before new, black carpeting was installed. In 2002, a new, remote controlled FM-CD player was added with additional speakers added in back of the rear bench seat.
This car is consistant trophy winner at area car shows, great to drive and always draws a crowd.
